Doing Good in Our Communities

In 2017 Eurofins celebrated our 30th Anniversary as a company.  One of our core values is “The Protection of Human Health Globally” and we have a great opportunity to demonstrate that by donating €1M ($1.64M NZD) to 40 charities around the world that align with our core values.

The €1M donation assisted charities working in areas that, like Eurofins, help to make the planet a safer and healthier place to live. The recipient charities selected by Eurofins fell into five categories: better nutrition, protecting ecosystems, improving health, social entrepreneurship and local communities. An article that further describes the initiative can be found here: Click for Article.

Here in New Zealand, Eurofins donated €25,000 (Approximately $42K NZD) to two national charities. Eurofins-ELS is following up with the monetary donation with something far more valuable – time.

Staff at our Wellington laboratory have been given paid time away from their usual work so they can spend time helping the charities.

The days will be allocated to a handful of staff each time and will be spread out over the year and regional locations.

Our objective is to provide 500 hours of community work per annum.

Donating Blood

Staff at our Rolleston laboratory near Christchurch have committed to donating blood during a recent New Zealand Blood Recruitment drive called TEAM RED. With the launch of Team Red, the NZ Blood Service will have a dedicated section on our website which will have exciting new functionality available that allows us to recognise and promote your support. These will include the ability for your organisation/business to see donation totals and ranking compared to other companies.

You can check out their website here: https://www.nzblood.co.nz/teamred/about-team-red/

Sustainability

Eurofins-ELS has expanded its sustainability team and now has active Green Team participants in Auckland, Wellington, Rolleston and Dunedin and is an active member in the Rata Certification Programme. The enlarged team are investigating even more ways in which we can lessen the impact on our environment and to become a more ethical and sustainable company.

One exciting development that the team has identified is a Swedish plastic shredder that can shred our used sample bottles with the sample still inside it. The machine will shred and wash the plastic then bag it up ready for recycling.
