Antibiotic Potency Test

BACKGROUND:
Eurofins | ams is able to perform antibiotic potency testing by the bioassay method. Antibiotic potency is estimated by comparing the inhibition of growth of sensitive micro-organisms produced by known concentrations of the antibiotic being examined against a reference standard substance. The test is performed on raw materials and finished products to confirm the antibiotic activity meets specifications.
PRINCIPLE OF TEST:
All test methods are based on the European and British Pharmacopeia: Biological assay of antibiotics, BP Appendix XIV A (Ph. Eur. method 2.7.2)
This is a large-plate format procedure where test and standard preparations are loaded into wells in a randomized latin square arrangement before incubation and reading the zones of inhibition.
