A Focus on Our Rolleston laboratory
Our Rolleston laboratory was officially opened in April 2016, having been relocated from our old Wigram site in 2015:
Since that time a lot has happened, with Eurofins Rolleston becoming an MPI recognised laboratory (RLP) for the dairy, meat and poultry sectors, when the previous dairy and meat accreditation schemes were replaced.
Over the past eighteen months we have extended our food accreditation to cover dozens of further tests. These include the testing of Tripe and Offal (including the China OMAR requirements), as well as expanding our offerings for testing of; raw milk, dairy products, non-alcoholic beverages (such as juices), and powdered foods.
August 2017 saw us extend our IANZ accredited pathogen testing accreditation to include 1 day Listeria and Salmonella detection by our company’s own BACGene technology.
Chinese GB Methods
In October 2017 we were granted accreditation for many of the latest 2016 Chinese GB standards for microbiology testing of dairy products. We now have the most comprehensive range of these new methods in the country. We were also granted accreditation for some Dairy Products chemistry and physical testing to support the cheese and milk powder sectors. We have also introduced several new tests for the testing of cultures and fermented products like cheese. Our range of food microbiology tests now includes Lactococci subspecies, Pediococci and Leuconostocs.
Sensory Testing
We are now also able to offer Sensory testing of all dairy products, supported by experienced staff with a long background in this work at dairy manufacturing sites. Our ISO17025 sensory accreditation for milk powders sees us being the only accredited sensory laboratory in New Zealand.
Salmon Industry Testing
Our Rolleston laboratory is well known as the go-to site for the South Islands salmon industry, providing a comprehensive range of tests, such as; chemical analysis, Pathogens, enzymes, antibiotics, residues, general microbiology, contaminants, as well as offering water testing.
New Laboratory Database
We have also invested in a new computer system (eLIMS) that went live in mid-November 2017 and the provision of a backup electricity generator so the laboratory can function through any of the natural disasters that seem so common now in the South Island.
Other Services
As well as food testing, we are able to offer a full drinking-water, groundwater, and surface water sampling and testing service. The service supports food manufacturers, industry and councils all around the South Island.
Our laboratory is also IANZ accredited to perform asbestos testing.
