Sewage and Effluent Testing

With our companies' origins in the effluent testing industry, the Eurofins Food and Water Testing NZ network of laboratories remains a leading provider of influent and effluent analysis for a wide range of treatment plants.

Our testing capability ranges from influent characterisation, through the process to the final effluent quality and includes sludge and air quality tests.

Influent & Final Effluent Characterisation

We analyse process samples for a range of different parameters including:

  • Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)
  • Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
  • Dissolved oxygen
  • Metals
  • Nitrate
  • Nutrients to check the efficiency of a nutrient removal plant
  • Oil and grease to check for saponification
  • Sludge Volume Index
  • Suspended solids
  • Volatile solids

Sludge Analysis

We analyse sludge from effluent treatment plants for:

  • Arsenic
  • Cadmium
  • Chromium
  • Copper
  • Cryptosporidium
  • Enteric viruses
  • Faecal coliforms
  • Giardia
  • Helminth ova
  • Iron
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Nickel
  • Nitrogen
  • Organo-Chlorine Pesticides
  • pH
  • Phosphorus
  • Potassium
  • Salmonella
  • Zinc

Landfill Testing

Landfill operators are required to monitor sludge parameters in order to minise their effect on the landfill environment. We operate a wide range of equipment and test methodologies to cover Ministry for the Environment landfill testing criteria. Please see our Landfill Testing page for more information.

Land Disposal Testing

In some areas of New Zealand, land disposal remains the only alternative to effluent discharge. We offer a nutrients analysis service for foliage and piezometers to monitor the effect of discharge on ground and surface waterways.

Marine and Freshwater Testing

Eurofins companies in New Zealand provide testing for both freshwater and marine environments as part of a regular monitoring program. This is designed to minimise the risk associated with recreational and fishing activities.

Receiving Waters Testing

Mussels are filter feeders and are known to concentrate contaminants such as metals and viruses. We can provide a testing service to monitor the health of a receiving water environment.

Data Reporting

We are able to provide data in multiple formats to integrate with our customers’ systems. Automation of this process allows for simplification and minimisation of transcription errors, and ensures data is readily available for a range of consent conditions.
