Boiler Water and Legionella Testing

OSH requires limited-attendance and unattended boilers to be tested monthly by an independent IANZ-approved laboratory.

The Eurofins Food and Water Testing NZ network of laboratories across New Zealand is accredited to perform boiler water tests on boiler water, feedwater, and condensate samples.

Boiler water must be dosed for the boiler to run efficiently. The type of chemical treatment used for boilers is site-specific to the boiler type and its feed water, which is why we have specifically tailored our testing capability to address these variables. A chemical imbalance in a boiler system can lead to corrosion and damage and ultimately result in boiler failure and injury.

We routinely test for:

  • Ammonia
  • Chloride or sality
  • Conductivity
  • Copper
  • Dissolved Oxygen
  • Hardness
  • Hydroxide P2 Alkalinity
  • Iron and Manganese
  • Nitrate
  • pH
  • Phenolphthalein P1 Alkalinity
  • Phosphate
  • Silica
  • Sulphide
  • Suspended Solids
  • Total Alkalinity
  • Total Dissolved Solids
  • Turbidity

Legionella Testing

Legionella species live in warm water circulation systems found in retirement homes, hospitals, and swimming pool complexes. They can also live in domestic and hotel spa pools, and hot water cylinders that are not set at the correct temperature.

Legionella pneumophilia has been responsible for illnesses linked to air conditioning systems in buildings, and Legionella longbeachae, with soils, composts and potting mixes.

We routinely test for Legionella species in the following matrices:

  • Cooling Tower water
  • Recycled warm water systems
  • Soils and compost
  • Swimming Pools

Eurofins Food and Water Testing companies in New Zealand are  IANZ accredited to perform Legionella tesing for cooling towers. We are also accredited to perform Heterotrophic Plate Count (pour plate) tests.

Our Legionella methodology follows the method published by the N.Z. Communicable Disease Centre, and the joint Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 3896: 2008.
