Bathing Beach Monitoring

Over the summer these has been several incidents of coastal bathing beaches being reported with high contamination levels. The test that is performed on coastal sites is Enterococci as this is a faecal bacteria that survives saline water better than E. coli, the “indicator” bacteria usually used when testing freshwater.

Many laboratories are using a 48 methods which, when combined with overnight couriers, can delay the reporting of results by up to three days.

Eurofins labs in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin all perform accredited Enterococci test method EPA 1600 which can be reported the day after sample receipt.

Please email us on ASMELSNZ@eurofins.com if you wish to learn more about this important environmental test.
