Wellington Laboratory Update: Earthquakes and Flooding

Sidebar Image

Due to the Tsunami risk on Monday (the 14th of November) it was not safe to be in the Wellington Laboratory, so the Lab was shut for the day. Senior staff were able to enter the building later on in the day to check for any damage and make sure that urgent samples were processed. We are happy to report that the building appears to be sound, though there is some damage to the roads in the area.

With the flooding on Tuesday (the 15th) and the resulting risk of drinking water contamination, our sampling team were very busy travelling around the region collecting water samples to monitor water quality. Unfortunately, many staff were unable to get to the Lab due to the road closures around the area and the courier service was disrupted.

Drier weather is predicted today and we hope to be fully staffed and back up to 100% capacity. We appreciate your patience during this time and our thoughts are with those who have been affected by Mondays earthquake, the subsequent aftershocks and the flooding yesterday.
